Love is a Four Letter Word

Love — It’s a Four-Letter Word!
To be and to stay an unknown author, that has always been his status and his destiny, that was the status he coveted, that was the destiny he created for himself, not by accident or unwittingly, but deliberately and out of an uncommon perversity. To write, but to go unread — this has happened to many writers. To write endlessly and under the most unfavorable conditions and as though nothing mattered more than to write, but to write in such a way, at such length, upon such subjects, in such a manner and using such language as to render oneself unapproachable, ‘unpublishable,’ ‘unknown,’ and yet upon succeeding generations to exert the most intense and enduring influence — this, it will be admitted, is rare indeed.

Yet again the Censor has struck. Unlike in ages past when censorship was the province of the State, today’s censorship is much more invidious because the State has enlisted the public and private sectors to do its bidding.
First it was PayPal — what a ludicrous name, for whose “pal” are they, really? — when they froze our account due to the “pornographic nature” of our blog’s content. They didn’t insinuate that there was anything illegal or even anything that made them liable to sanction about it. No. They simply took issue with the “nature” of the content. Well, the content is, to use the Marquis’ words, completely natural. Not only did they shut down all payments owed to us through the blog but, just for good measure, they shut down any and every transaction that we wished to do — blog or no blog. I only found this out when I went to renew my ACLU membership. The payment was blocked. Irony?
There were a number of other similarly specious shut-downs due to “the nature” of our message: facebook, Google+, and then WordAds (among others). This last one was particularly infuriating because as we were slowly accumulating revenue by allowing WordPress-contracted ads to appear on the bottom of each blog post, we were also trying to figure out how to get around the PayPal dead-end in order to get paid by WordAds. Then, without any warning, we were notified that WordAds was discontinuing with us and that we wouldn’t get paid the revenue owed to us — not even if we had an account through which to do it. This seemed quite duplicitous — use our blog because it’s popular and then pull out because the source of its popularity (that so many advertisers liked and used) is objectionable.
Finally, WordPress itself — without warning, without notice, without giving us a chance to rectify anything it found objectionable (not that we would, mind you) — suddenly discontinued our service — on the 4th of July no less. That’s one way to celebrate the liberty and freedoms of this country!
Well, pens are used to write more than checks and lawsuits. Keep your money! Keep your antiseptic and mind-numbing morality! What good will they do you? — you who don’t know how to live, love, or think. You bovine of the blogosphere — you can have your cud. You can shut me down, but you can’t shut me up. You can repress others with the repression you inflict upon yourselves, but it is futile to try stemming the river of dreams with electronic shackles and tethers.
